President's Lectures and Forums
IAN McMILLAN & ANDY MARTIN
Date: Wednesday 6 December 2006
(THIS LECTURE WILL NOW BEGIN AT 7.45,
45 MINUTES LATER THAN PREVIOUSLY ADVERTISED )
Location: Logan Hall, London
Writer, poet, performer and broadcaster Ian McMillan and seasoned
image maker Andy Martin have collaborated on an enterprising joint
venture of literary and visual authorship.
Together they produced a book, ‘Ideas Have Legs’, in which Andy
Martin visually interprets the poetry and prose of Ian McMillan.
A mixture of the wry and the poignant rendered with media ranging from digital illustration, photography, found imagery and painting, all ingeniously edited into a coherent whole, beautifully designed and published by FUEL.
The evening will feature a live performance with McMillan reading
his wry and poignant poetry accompanied by Martin's beautiful
illustrations, followed up with an interview chaired by
Adrian Shaughnessy.
Ian is a well known figure in British cultural life. He started
performing on the live poetry circuit in the 1970s, has had several
books published, appears regularly on television and radio and
contributes articles to many newspapers and magazines. Andy was the
Art Director at NME before leaving in 1985 to pursue an illustration
career. He is a seasoned image-maker working across illustration
and moving image. His regular contributions to major UK newspapers
and magazines are instantly recognizable.
