Advertising Workshops 2007/8
The D&AD Workshops seek to inspire you and broaden your understanding of the creative industries. They also aim to help you prepare to get your first job in your chosen field.
What are the workshops?
The Workshops are a part-time evening programme held once weekly for seven weeks. We run two separate types of workshops, Design and Advertising.
Creatives at leading agencies will host the sessions and offer unique insights into their companys personality. By setting live and challenging briefs they will test you to create ideas, campaigns and intelligent creative solutions. They will also offer you a privileged insight into current trends and their own work.
The Advertising, Integrated and new Digital Workshops aim to challenge you to come up with advertising campaign ideas. You can also get to grips with how best to approach a brief and execute an idea. There are three types of advertising workshops:
Advertising Workshops
The majority of briefs set for the Advertising Workshops will ask for "above the line" media (television, press and posters).
Integrated Workshops
Integrated Advertising Workshops challenge you to push a single motivating idea across a range of effective media to create a fully integrated campaign (direct mail, digital, ambient, stunts in addition to "above the line" media).
Digital Workshops
Digital leans towards online and digital media formats for advertising. You will explore the countless options available and learn how this new and important media can stretch and release your idea. You do not need to have a technical background for these sessions; the creative idea is still the focus here.
For each series of Advertising workshops there are up to 20 places available. We won't lie to you its tough to get on. To maximize your chances we recommend you apply for both types of workshop whilst they are running simultaneously.
What are the benefits?
All the workshops will give you an insight into the design or advertising industry from a practitioners point of view. As well as visiting the agencies, you will gain first hand advice from the people who are setting the standard. Following the sessions hopefully these people will become valuable contacts for you.
You will get to work on briefs set directly within the specialisms of each agency, which will enable you to build a broad range of work for your portfolio. The feedback and advice given at the sessions will help you to improve and develop your work and ultimately contributes to you building a stronger book/portfolio.
There is also the chance that you may get selected for our Graduate Placement Scheme based on the standard of your work at the close of the course.
Who can apply?
Registration is open to anyone with a strong interest in either of these fields, regardless of your background or previous experience. You should have a awareness and understanding of the core elements of design or advertising.
You dont have to be in a team either as theyre a great way to meet other copywriters/art directors looking to team up. You can also search for a partner for free by registering to use the teaming service on talentpool.
If you are unsure whether you are eligible to apply please get in contact.
How to apply
To gain a place on the Workshops you will need to register by using the application form. Once registered you will be sent a competition brief on a set date. The brief is set by one of the hosting agencies who also judge the entries.
Places will be allocated to those who show the most potential in generating ideas, as well as an understanding of their craft.
Where are the workshops?
All workshops are held at a different hosting agency each week. Advertising Workshops are held in London, Manchester, Leeds, Glasgow and Edinburgh
